OREANDA-NEWS Russia has almost run out of stocks of inexpensive brand cars popular until 2022. This was stated by auto expert Egor Vasiliev, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Foreign cars like Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Renault Logan and Duster, VW Polo and Skoda Rapid have not been produced since 2022. Dealers sold the remaining cars in warehouses, as the demand for them was rather inertial. According to Vasiliev, consumers still have memories of the high quality of the brands that left Russia, and the problems associated with them have been forgotten.
An attempt to purchase a car using the parallel import scheme results in unjustified expenses and the risk associated with the possibility of after-sales service. Their place was taken by the "Chinese", whose diversity in models and prices preserves the opportunity for Russians to buy a new car.
Over the past 15 years, average car ownership has increased dramatically in Russia. According to Autostat, in 2009, the average car ownership period was about three years, and by the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, the figure exceeded seven years. According to the head of the analytical agency, Sergey Tselikov, in the medium term, the situation may change with regard to the terms of ownership of specifically Chinese cars.
