OREANDA-NEWS. The American F-35 fighter, which belongs to the South Korean Air Force, has a chassis failure. The plane had to land on its belly. This was reported on January 4 by the SBS channel.

The pilot, after the failure of all the landing gear, had to land the fighter on the fuselage on the runway of a military airfield. For landing, the strip was covered with special foam - it reduced friction and the likelihood of fire.

Until the reasons for the incident were clarified, the South Korean authorities banned the use of the latest fifth-generation F-35 fighters.

On November 17, a £ 100m F-35 crashed into the Mediterranean after takeoff. The plane crashed on a regular flight from the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth.

According to British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, the accident occurred shortly after the F-35 took off, but despite the incident, training flights with the participation of fighters continue.

A spokesman for the United Kingdom's Department of Defense said that the country is striving to promptly remove the wreckage of the F-35 Lightning fighter, so that "the plane does not fall into the hands of a hostile state."
