OREANDA-NEWS President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer of 100% of the federally owned shares of JSC Vainakhavia, the operator of the Severny International Airport in Grozny, to Chechnya.

The decree published on the official legal information portal states that this decision was made at the suggestion of the federal Government and the Government of Chechnya.

The decision was made "to attract investments of at least 7.14 billion rubles by the Government of the Chechen Republic until December 31, 2026 in the comprehensive reconstruction, construction and modernization of air transport infrastructure facilities at the A.A.Kadyrov Grozny (Severny) International Airport," the decree also says.

The Federal Government has been instructed to ensure the transfer of 100% of the JSC's shares to the ownership of the republic within a 6-month period.

The operator of Grozny Airport was previously excluded from the privatization program. In the autumn of 2022, the Federal Property Management Agency stated that, together with the Ministry of Transport, it was taking measures to transfer 100% of the shares of JSC "Vainakhavia" to Chechnya, which "will allow the company to attract additional funding, as well as ensure the effective completion of the reconstruction of the airport."

Work on the reconstruction and construction of the airfield infrastructure has been underway since 2022 in six stages, it is planned to build a new and reconstruct the old apron to create 23 parking spaces, modernize and build tracks for taxiing and towing aircraft, work on auxiliary airport infrastructure facilities, aircraft maintenance and lighting.

In total, eight buildings and structures will be built to serve the airfield part, including a new terminal with an area of 40 thousand square meters and a command and control center. The construction of the terminal complex and the reconstruction of the airfield in Grozny are carried out within the framework of the state program for the development of transport. Currently, the airport has one passenger terminal that serves domestic and international lines. The entire complex of works is expected to be fully completed in 2025.

Grozny Severny Airport serves flights of Aeroflot, S7, UTair, Azimuth, Pegas Fly. By the end of 2022, passenger traffic increased by 8.9% compared to 2021 - to 777,296 people. After the reconstruction, the airport will be able to serve 1.5 million passengers per year.
