OREANDA-NEWS  The used car market in Russia in April showed a sharp increase in annual terms. Sales due to the low base of last year increased by 40.7 percent, to 495.5 thousand units. Kommersant writes about this with reference to the calculations of Autostat.

The result was lower than in March by two thousand cars (0.4 percent), but since in April there was one day less, taking into account weekends and three working days, then on average sales still increased.

At the same time, an increased growth in demand is observed for newer cars. According to Avito Auto, in April it rose by 43 percent in the under-ten category, but the number of ads increased by only 22 percent. The average price reached 1.7 million rubles (2.4 percent higher than in March). In terms of models, Lada Granta with an average price of 580 thousand rubles, Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio, on average going for a million, retained the leadership in demand.

On "Auto.<url>" from the beginning of April to May, the average price remained at the level of 1.5 million rubles. Japanese cars are most often trying to sell (26 percent), followed by German (24 percent), Russian (15 percent), South Korean (13 percent) and American (8 percent).

Nikolay Baskakov, director of Avilon Used Cars, suggested that if the supply of the most popular cars (small mileage, one or two owners) continues to remain small, then prices will go up. However, he does not expect an increase in the cost of expensive cars, since the demand for them is low.

Earlier, a study by VTB and the National Industrial Information Agency (NAPI) showed that more than eight percent of new passenger cars sold in February 2023 in Russia were imported under the parallel import scheme.
