OREANDA-NEWS The South Korean authorities have dramatically expanded the list of products prohibited from being transported to the territory of Russia and Belarus. A total of 682 categories have been added to the updated list, the measures will come into force in early 2024, TASS reports, citing data from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Asian country.

Due to the changes, a total of 1,159 types of goods were banned. The updated list includes passenger cars with an engine displacement of more than 2 thousand cubic centimeters. At the same time, cars worth more than 50 thousand dollars were previously subject to restrictions.

The South Korean authorities have also limited supplies to Russia and Belarus of heavy construction equipment, batteries with the ability to charge and components for aviation equipment, the ministry said. The ministry explained the sharp expansion of the sanctions list of products by the "high probability" of using these types of products for military purposes. However, the agency made a number of exceptions in cases "when a number of conditions are met, such as the conclusion of a contract before the notification takes effect, deliveries to subsidiaries."

The South Korean authorities have repeatedly expanded the list of products prohibited for transportation to Russia. So, at the end of April 2023, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Asian country announced a sharp increase in the list of restrictions from 57 to 798 positions. Then, among other things, components and spare parts for cars more expensive than 50 thousand dollars, as well as conductors, quantum computers and parts for them, were banned.
