OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2023, a total of more than 11 thousand truck tractors and 6.5 thousand Chinese-made dump trucks had accumulated in dealer and distribution warehouses in Russia. These stocks are planned to be sold off before the spring of 2024, Kommersant reports, citing statistical data from VTB Leasing analysts.

The most common trucks in dealer warehouses were foreign cars of the Chinese manufacturer Shacman. By the end of November, a total of 2 thousand tractors and 2.5 thousand dump trucks of this brand were in temporary idle. At the same time, in the second half of 2023, the concern sold an average of 900 tractors and about 1.2 thousand dump trucks per month. However, even such a pace was not enough to sell off all Chinese trucks located in dealers' warehouses, experts say.

Autostat points to the fact that towards the end of 2023, the sales rate of the Chinese manufacturer slowed significantly — from 2.1 thousand tractors and dump trucks to 1.7 thousand trucks. Anton Musatov, CEO of VTB Leasing, attributed this trend to a general decrease in imports of similar machines from China in September. This happened against the background of a number of factors, including the growth of scrap collection, fluctuations in exchange rates and another increase in the key rate by the Russian Central Bank (CB). A sharp drop in sales eventually led to the accumulation of Chinese heavy-duty vehicles in Russia, analysts concluded.

In early January, analysts at the Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported that by the end of 2022, Russia had purchased a total of almost 31 thousand units of heavy-duty equipment from China. During the year, the indicator soared four times compared to the previous one. China has also sharply increased exports of buses and minibuses — by 68 percent, to two thousand units. In addition, during this period of time, Russia tripled the import of Chinese special purpose vehicles — up to 3 thousand units.
