OREANDA-NEWS The organization of a railway connection between Crimea and the central part of the Russian Federation through new regions will require the restoration of some sections and the construction of several connecting branches, the project cost may amount to 90-160 billion rubles, Pavel Ivankin, president of the Russian National Research Center for Transportation and Infrastructure, estimated for RIA Novosti.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin yesterday took the initiative to work out a railway infrastructure project that will connect Crimea and the central part of the Russian Federation through new regions by freight and passenger traffic. He made such a request to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting on the development of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

"The exit from Crimea is provided through the direction of Dzhankoy and Novoalekseyevskaya to the Zaporizhia region. Then through the Railways of Novorossiya. Some areas will have to be restored there, as well as several connecting branches will have to be built. The total cost of the project varies from 90 to 160 billion rubles," Ivankin said.
This variation, he explained, is explained by various tracing options and an assessment of the infrastructure.
