OREANDA-NEWS In 2022, the European Union (EU) sharply reduced the export of cars to Russia and at the same time increased supplies to the countries bordering it. This was stated by the head of the European Diplomacy Josep Borrel, writes TASS.

Deliveries of cars from Europe to Russia fell by 80 percent last year, while exports to Central Asia soared by 300 percent. "Yes, we have greatly reduced exports to Russia, but at the same time we have significantly expanded supplies to Russia's neighbors. There was a high demand for European cars. And it would not be a stupid idea to assume that they are being re—exported to Russia," he explained. Most of the Russian car market is currently occupied by Chinese brands, which quickly occupied the niches of the departed Western companies. Cars produced in China can literally capture the market, Maxim Sokolov, the head of AvtoVAZ, warned earlier. He noted that this is becoming a real strategic challenge for the domestic automotive industry, and recalled that sales of passenger cars in Russia are falling, and the government allocates insufficient money to support preferential lending and leasing.

Last month, Japan began actively importing cars to Russia. In April, shipments from this country increased by 77 percent compared to the same month last year. At the same time, Russian imports of Japanese motorcycles and autocycles soared by 86.4 percent.
