OREANDA-NEWS The head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Andrey Kutepov, called for a reduction in the price of compulsory motor liability insurance (CTP) policies for Russian-made cars. He sent the relevant proposals to the Deputy Prime Minister, head of the government staff Dmitry Grigorenko, writes TASS.

The senator considers it necessary to set a limit on the cost of the policy for cars with a localization level of 600 points in order to motivate Russians to insure their cars more often, as well as to increase demand for domestic cars.

Kutepov recalled that last year the Ministry of Internal Affairs recorded 1.8 million violations related to the failure of the car owner to fulfill the obligation to insure his civil liability. At the same time, a "significant increase in tariffs" of CTP was noted in Russia.

According to the association "Non—profit Partnership "Logistics and Trucking of Tatarstan", from 2020 to 2022, the cost of insurance for trucks for legal entities increased 1.3 times, for individual entrepreneurs and self-employed - three times. "Domestic cars are no exception, which, with the overall low cost of the vehicle, makes it unprofitable to insure it," the senator noted.
