OREANDA-NEWS. In Paris, from Monday, August 30, the speed of motor transport is almost everywhere limited to 30 kilometers per hour. The restriction does not apply only to the ring road, the boulevards surrounding the city, as well as to some major avenues, such as the Champs-Elysees. On the ring road, you can still drive at a speed of 70 kilometers per hour, and on the boulevards surrounding the city — at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour.

By limiting the speed to 30 kilometers per hour, the Paris Mayor's Office intends to improve road safety in the city and promote environmental protection. The introduction of this restriction was one of the promises of the mayor of Paris, En Hidalgo, on the eve of last year's municipal elections. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Hidalgo has dramatically increased the number of bike paths in the capital and at the same time reduced the number of car parks.

These measures have caused little enthusiasm among residents of the suburbs of Paris, who are forced to travel to the capital for work. At the same time, according to a survey conducted by the Ifop sociological Institute, 61 percent of Parisians approve of the speed limit in the French capital.
