OREANDA-NEWS  Cars of the Volga brand for a long time served as the main vehicle for Soviet and Russian officials.

At the beginning of the XXI century, the production of cars on an outdated platform was suspended, but now there is a new need for such vehicles. In connection with the instructions of the head of state, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin expressed the opinion that it is necessary to develop a domestic car model for civil servants.

After the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin about the need to use exclusively domestic cars for civil servants, the deputies of the State Duma were among the first to express their position on the rejection of foreign cars. The chairman of this chamber Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that "we need to start with ourselves."

He noted: "We have reached an agreement according to which deputies will use Moskvich, Lada and Aurus cars. From September 2023, it is planned to upgrade the fleet, and in the near future it is expected to produce Volga cars, which will also be in great demand."

"Here it is necessary to understand what exactly can be considered a domestic car," said automotive expert Igor Morzharetto. "For example, Lada or UAZ really represent Russian developments with a high degree of localization, while Muscovites are currently completely based on Chinese models.

As a result, it is necessary to clarify what level of localization and state control foreign brands should have in order to participate in public procurement and provide cars for civil servants. As for Volga, a comprehensive approach is required in this case.

Having completed sales of the Toyota Camry, the market lost comfortable sedans for representative purposes. Neither Moskvich nor Lada produce similar models. From this moment on, discussions continue on the creation of domestic cars of classes D and E. In the spring of 2022, the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov announced the restoration of the Volga and even the Victory.

"GAZ has sufficient engineering potential and a production base for the development and manufacture of a domestic model," says auto expert Vyacheslav Subbotin. "Although it will be a car with certain borrowings, similar practices are common almost all over the world. There are no unique vehicles for a long time, and all companies work together on technologies. The rich experience of cooperation with foreign brands will help to successfully create and produce Volga," the expert noted.

The development of the Volga will take, according to estimates, at least a year, subject to an appropriate decision. This period includes pilot production, technical adjustments, error correction, testing and production of a number of experimental cars. Taking into account the accumulated experience that has passed before the start of sales, the process of developing and launching a domestic Volga can take from three to five years.
