OREANDA-NEWS US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright spoke about whether the country is ready to continue purchasing Russian enriched uranium. The head of the department was quoted by InfoMoney.
According to him, the United States hopes that it will be able to reduce its dependence on purchases of this radioactive element from Russia. Washington hopes to achieve this by reorganizing supply chains in the energy and nuclear sectors. According to the minister, neither the United States, nor Europe and most of the rest of the world will use Russian uranium.
In early autumn of last year, Wright had already stated the US desire to reduce dependence on Russian nuclear fuel. Then he admitted that it was impossible to completely abandon it, but the United States was "approaching this moment." According to him, the country needs to increase the production of uranium and its enrichment capacity.
