OREANDA-NEWS. As a result of the attack on the Muhammad Daoud Khan military hospital in the center of Kabul, at least 19 people were killed and at least 50 were injured. This was announced by a representative of the Ministry of Health of the Taliban, who seized power in Afghanistan in August. No group has yet declared it's involvement in the incident.

The powerful explosions were followed by a shootout between the attackers and militants of the radical Islamist Taliban movement in the Wazir Akbar Khan quarter, local TV channel Tolo News reports. Foreign diplomatic missions are also located in this area.

According to the Tolo News channel, the first explosion was committed at the entrance to the hospital, the second — not far from it's building. The hospital belongs to the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan. Meanwhile, one of the doctors in an interview with the AFP news agency said that he still hears automatic bursts. «I think the attackers are going from room to room, just like last time», the doctor said, mentioning the attack on the same hospital in 2017, as a result of which militants disguised as doctors killed at least 30 people.

After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, a wave of violence and terrorist attacks has sharply intensified, including those committed by the Islamic State, which has been operating in the country since 2015. IS considers Shiite Muslims to be heretics and regularly attacks them. One of the largest attacks organized by ISIS in recent times was the bloody terrorist attack in August at the Kabul airport, organized during an international evacuation mission, explosions staged there right in the crowd by suicide bombers claimed the lives of almost 200 people.
