China's population has declined by more than a million people

OREANDA-NEWS By the end of 2024, China's population has decreased by 1.39 million people and now stands at just over 1.4 billion citizens. This is reported by the State Statistical Office of the People's Republic of China.
In particular, 9.54 million people were born in China last year, while 10.93 million died. Against the background of a 1.6 percent decrease in the birth rate, the number of citizens over the age of 65 has increased — about 220 million people. At the same time, the share of the working-age population was almost 61 percent.
Thus, China's population has been declining for the third time in a row since 2022. However, in 2023 it decreased by more than two million people, which means a decrease in the rate of population decline.
In particular, 9.54 million people were born in China last year, while 10.93 million died.
