OREANDA-NEWSFormer US National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden has filed documents to extend his residence permit in Russia for another three years. This was announced to the Russian media on Thursday by his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena.

"Yes, the other day we submitted documents for the extension of a residence permit for another three years. We hope that the decision will be made positive", he said. At the same time, Kucherena noted that the issue of obtaining Russian citizenship was not currently discussed.

In June 2013, Snowden handed over to the newspapers The Guardian and The Washington Post classified material about surveillance programs for people by British and American intelligence agencies on the Internet. After that, he was forced to hide and eventually fled to Russia.
