Europe is acting against its own interests, Spain says

OREANDA-NEWS European leaders are acting under the influence of the Anglo-Saxon media, contrary to their own interests, turning Europe into an enemy to themselves, Luis Manuel Fraga, a former member of the Spanish Senate (1989-2011) and president of the Latin American Committee of the Senate (1996-2008), said at the conference.
"Today, Europe has become its own enemy. European leaders are influenced by the Anglo-Saxon media, the very ones that speak out against Russia, against Europe's cooperation with Russia, and therefore against Europe itself," he said.
According to him, London, despite leaving the European Union, continues to influence decision-making in Brussels, forming an anti-Russian agenda that primarily harms Europe itself.
Fraga noted that the anti-Russian measures imposed by European countries result in economic losses for the EU states themselves. The refusal to import Russian oil and gas forced Europe to purchase these goods from the United States, Qatar and the UAE at higher prices, which increased the burden on industry and households.
He called the EU's visa policy no less flawed. According to him, restrictions on the issuance of visas to citizens of Russia and Belarus is an irrational idea, because "Russian and Belarusian tourism is high-level tourism, much better than British tourism."
Fraga recalled that the withdrawal of European companies from the Russian market did not deprive Russia of investments, but only opened up opportunities for Asian and Middle Eastern partners. As a result, he noted, Europe is losing ground and markets, weakening its own economy.
