OREANDA-NEWS  German Chancellor Friedrich Merz may be hostile towards Russia because of the stories about the USSR that he was told as a child. This assumption was made by the head of the German Council for Constitution and Sovereignty, Ralf Niemeyer, RIA Novosti reports.

According to him, Merz is guided by emotions, not common sense, which indicates that "he has personal reasons to be against Russia."

"Perhaps there were family stories about the Soviet Union and the war that made him speak out so aggressively. It seems that he wants revenge. What is he aiming for? Is it really going to war to avenge 1945?" Niemeyer asked.

On September 3, Merz announced the need to "economically exhaust" Russia in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
