Attempts by the European Union (EU) to isolate Russia have failed. This was stated by Thomas Geisel, a member of the European Parliament from Germany, in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

According to him, more and more people in the association are beginning to doubt the correctness of anti-Russian sanctions, believing that the current course puts the EU in a difficult position.

"Efforts to isolate Russia have failed miserably, and we need to develop a new strategy. (...) After all, Russia is the largest country in Europe," the MEP said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was not discussing the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions because they were illegal and did not exist for it.
