OREANDA-NEWS  The plan for a two-week cease-fire between the United States and Iran will allow Tehran and Muscat to impose a fee for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the Associated Press reports, citing an official from one of the countries in the region.

"The plan for a two-week cease-fire includes allowing Iran and Oman to collect fees from ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz," the publication says.

According to the official, Tehran will use the proceeds to rebuild the country. However, it is not specified what Muscat will spend the money on.

Iran and Oman are located respectively on the northern and southern shores of the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait itself is partially located in the territorial waters of both States.

The Agency draws attention to the fact that previously the Strait of Hormuz was considered an international sea route, and no fees were ever charged for passage through it.
