OREANDA-NEWS The commissioning of the Karat microchip factory in Yekaterinburg has been postponed for at least a year — from the end of this year to the end of 2027. This was stated by the head of the Corporation for the Development of the Middle Urals (KRSU) Andrey Misyura, according to the portal 66.ru
He called the reason for the delay the unwillingness of the industrial partner, the Ural Design Bureau Detail, to implement the project. Currently, a plot of land has been allocated for production and engineering networks have been carried out, but construction has not yet begun.
The microchips that the plant is supposed to produce are planned to be used in radars, routers, medical scanners, as well as in the defense industry. The capacity of the enterprise will be up to two thousand plates per year, investments in the project were previously estimated at 13 billion rubles.
Last week, Misyura noted in a comment to the URA portal that the digital microchips that are being tried in Russia are 100 times more advanced than the world's developments. However, in terms of analog chips, the country is able to produce products at a competitive level.
According to him, today the Russian industry is provided with domestic analog chips by only 10 percent with the need for 10,000 wafers.
Earlier, the media found out that as part of the microelectronics development plan in Russia, the government wants to create a megacorporation called United Microelectronics Company (OMK), for the development of which a trillion rubles will be allocated until 2030, including 750 billion from the federal budget.
