OREANDA-NEWS. Japanese authorities will consider the possibility of providing citizens of the country with assistance in the amount of 100 thousand yen ($ 930) per person in the context of the global coronavirus pandemic and the resulting negative impact on the economy. This was announced at a press conference in Tokyo on Wednesday by Cabinet Secretary General Yoshihide Suga.

Earlier, Japan adopted a package of economic assistance in the amount of 108 trillion yen (almost $ 1 trillion) to support businesses and ordinary families - it equals 20% of the country's GDP. In particular, within the framework of this amount, it is planned to allocate 300 thousand yen ($ 2,750) for a family whose incomes are either low or fell in recent months due to the situation with coronavirus and a decrease in economic activity.

To date, Japan has 8.8 thousand confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, the number of deaths has reached 174. These statistics include passengers and crew of the Diamond Princess cruise ship, which has been quarantined in Yokohama for a month.
