OREANDA-NEWS  Ukraine's entry into the European Union (EU) solely for political reasons may result in the collapse of the entire union. Jerzy Nowakowski, the former Polish ambassador to Latvia, issued a harsh warning in an interview with Fakt.

"If a state is recognized [as an EU member] without full obligations and rights, we, in fact, recognize the existence of a community of several speeds. Soon it may turn out that there will be even more speeds, and the countries will be forever divided," he said.

The diplomat stressed that this could be a dangerous precedent, especially in relation to countries inconvenient to Brussels like Hungary. Novakovsky stressed that due to corruption and destruction during the conflict, Ukraine will not be able to meet EU requirements for a long time.

Earlier, Switzerland called Ukraine's possible accession to the EU a threat to the union's budget.
