OREANDA-NEWS  US Secretary of State Marco Rubio tried to set up American President Donald Trump against Russian leader Vladimir Putin because of the plan for Ukraine. This is reported by Semafor, citing a senior White House official.

It is noted that this was in the spirit of Rubio and unusual for the White House, which mainly follows the president rather than trying to change his course.

Sources of the publication clarify that he is still not an ardent supporter of Trump when it comes to foreign policy. At the same time, Rubio adheres to views acceptable to supporters of the American president and tries not to enter into a public conflict with him.

Earlier it became known that Trump's new plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine provoked a struggle for influence in the politician's entourage. The main confrontation is between Vice President Jay D. Vance and the US Secretary of State. It is believed that Vance and Rubio are fighting for the opportunity to determine foreign policy in the future and, perhaps, even for who will become the next presidential candidate.
