OREANDA-NEWS  Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever called the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to confiscate frozen assets of Russia for the transfer of these funds to Ukraine theft. He made such a statement during a conversation with journalists in the country's parliament, RIA Novosti reports.

"It would be like entering the embassy, taking out all the furniture and selling it," the Belgian prime minister stressed.

De Wever said that, in his opinion, there are more appropriate solutions than stealing funds belonging to the Central Bank of Russia.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Moscow would respond to the expropriation of frozen assets or the deployment of European troops on the territory of Ukraine.

EC President Ursula von der Leyen admitted on December 3 that the decision to withdraw frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine could be made without Belgium's consent.
