OREANDA-NEWS In January, oil production in Russia amounted to 9.246 million barrels per day, which is 58,000 barrels per day less than in December and 328,000 below the permitted level. This is stated in the monthly OPEC report.
Such data is confirmed by previous media reports, citing sources, that in January, oil production in Russia, excluding condensate, decreased by 46,000 barrels, to 9.28 million barrels per day. This month was the third in a row when production volumes decreased.
The Russian authorities have not published official production data in recent years and have not commented on the dynamics. Sources claim that this result was determined by difficulties with oil sales due to tougher sanctions and India's uncertain position on continued imports.
In general, as stated in the OPEC report, OPEC+ countries participating in the production quota agreement have reduced production by 264,000 barrels per day compared to December. Total production in the first month of 2026 remained 643,000 barrels per day below plan.
Almost all of the backlog (621,000 barrels per day) was provided by OPEC+ non-OPEC countries. In particular, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates increased production in January.
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov admitted that the sharp tightening of US energy sanctions against Russia had led to a diversification of the country's commodity import structure.
