OREANDA-NEWS  The Brazilian nun Nina Canabarro Lucas, who was widely regarded as the oldest person on Earth, passed away at the age of 116 years and 326 days. This was announced by the French television channel BFMTV, citing the religious community of the city of Porto Alegre.

The woman was born on June 8, 1908, in the southern city of San Francisco d'Assisi.

According to the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in the United States, after Lucas's death, the oldest woman was an Englishwoman named Ethel Caterham, who resides in Surrey. She is currently 115 years and 252 days old.

The record for the longest lifespan, at 122 years and 164 days, belongs to a French woman named Jeanne Calment.

However, there are doubts about her age, as her daughter has been suspected of impersonating her for many years. In terms of verified longevity, the Japanese woman Kanetanaka holds the record, having lived to the age of 119 years and 107 days.
