OREANDA-NEWS  Micron Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers of RAM modules, will close its Crucial division. This is stated in the company's statement.

Micron and its Crucial brand, along with Samsung and SK Hynix, are the main manufacturers of RAM. Micron announced that it will close its consumer products business. Instead of RAM modules, the company will increase the production of components for companies involved in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

Along with RAM kits, Micron will stop producing low-cost solid-state drives (SSDs) for personal computers (PCs). The company is going to withdraw from the consumer technology market by February 2026.

"The company has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve the supply and support of our large strategic customers in fast—growing segments," said Sumit Sadana, Micron's chief commercial Officer. He stressed that the increased interest in AI has led to a sharp increase in demand for memory and data storage systems.

Micron's withdrawal from the memory market occurred against the background of a sharp increase in computer components. The crisis is attributed to the growing needs of data centers that support the work of AI.

Earlier, experts from Sedaily said that Samsung smartphones would become more expensive due to rising RAM prices. LPDDR5X memory modules used in phones have almost doubled in price in less than a year.
