OREANDA-NEWS  The United States has closed 83% of the programs run by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), after reviewing their activities for six weeks. This was announced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on his social media page.

After a six-week review, we have officially canceled 83% of USAID programs. Tens of billions of dollars have been spent on 5,200 canceled contracts that did not meet the basic national interests of the United States, and in some cases, even harmed them.

Rubio emphasized that, together with Congress, they decided to transfer the remaining 1,000 projects under the State Department's control, which they decided to preserve.
