OREANDA-NEWS Engin Ozer, a Turkish political scientist and a leading expert of the Ankara-Moscow analytical network, commented on the idea of sending the EU military contingent to Ukraine as a security guarantor. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Ozer assessed the likelihood of sending EU troops to Ukraine and stressed that Europe is not ready for an open conflict with Russia over Kiev. In addition, the promises of European allies do not look reliable. According to the expert, even with a cease-fire, European countries are unlikely to agree to send troops to Ukraine.
"Security guarantees are provided not by agreements, but by military power, technology and finance, that is, deterrence. Therefore, the promises made to Kiev cannot be clear and unambiguous," the analyst noted.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said that 26 countries of the "coalition of the willing" are ready to send troops to Ukraine. According to him, they expect to finalize the US contribution to ensuring security guarantees in the coming days.
