OREANDA-NEWS   The Chinese authorities have imposed duties on certain types of dairy products imported from the European Union (EU). This was reported by Bloomberg.

The reason for this step was the results of an investigation, which showed that the EU authorities subsidized this segment of their economy. As a result, Beijing has imposed tariffs on some dairy products produced in the European Union. In particular, some fresh and processed cheeses and cream were affected. Thus, the French Fromarsac faced duties of 30 percent, and some companies that are part of the Dutch cheese company FrieslandCampina were subject to duties of 43 percent.

According to the agency, such steps by China exacerbate trade tensions with the European Union, which last October voted to impose 45 percent duties on Chinese electric vehicles.

In turn, China last week imposed anti-dumping tariffs ranging from 5 to 20 percent on pork imports from the EU.

In early December, French President Emmanuel Macron issued an ultimatum to Beijing, threatening that Europe would follow the example of the United States and impose punitive duties on China.
