Their noble mission is to reveal the huge spiritual and physical potential of people with disabilities, to help them demonstrate their abilities and strength of spirit, regardless of external circumstances.

Our athletes have always represented our country at the Deaflympics with honour. Thanks to their skills, tenacity and personal courage, they have achieved the very highest results. I am sure that you will further this victorious tradition and justify the hopes of Russians who are cheering for you and believe in your strength.”

The 21st Summer Deaflympics will be held from September 5 to 16, 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan with about 3,000 athletes from more than 85 countries participating in the games. 182 sets of medals will be awarded in 20 different sports.

Russian deaflympians will compete in 17 sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, football, judo, karate, orienteering, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, beach volleyball, freestyle wrestling, and Greco-Roman wrestling.
