OREANDA-NEWS  Russia is ready to resume economic cooperation with Moldova on the basis of an intergovernmental commission, and may also consider measures to further promote Moldovan exports to Russia, said Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov.

"The Russian side is ready to respond and consider measures to further promote Moldovan exports to our country. We are open to resuming cooperation through the intergovernmental commission. We believe that this will give an impetus to local economic agents, who are by no means favored in the oversaturated, monopolized EU markets, as evidenced by the chronic decline in the republic's foreign trade," Ozerov said in an interview with the portal.

According to him, high-quality Moldovan products are still remembered and appreciated in Russia, therefore, there are still opportunities for restoring lost positions in traditional commodity items.

"The prospects for more active Russian-Moldovan economic cooperation depend on Chisinau's willingness to pursue a balanced and pragmatic policy in the interests of its own business. The election results, in a sense, will be an indicator of the existence of such a vector," the diplomat noted.

Relations between Russia and Moldova began to deteriorate after President Maia Sandu, who adheres to a pro-European policy, came to power in the republic at the end of 2020. Moscow urges Chisinau to listen to the interests of its own citizens and not to hinder the development of human contacts and interregional ties with Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the Moldovan authorities to stop the confrontational anti-Russian rhetoric in the country. They added that Moscow is committed to friendly relations with Moldova and does not enjoy the fact that this country is being used by the West for anti-Russian purposes.
