OREANDA-NEWS  The Bank of Russia continues to discuss with credit institutions possible restrictions on the operation of cards of the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard, said Alla Bakina, head of the Department of the National Payment System (NSPK) of the Central Bank. As follows from her words, to which TASS refers, it is planned to work out an optimal solution soon, taking into account, among other things, the costs of banks.

Bakina promised that the fate of foreign cards in Russia, which the NSPK supports only technologically, while the product does not develop and remains at the parameters of the previous period, will be solved so that customers do not face restrictions on access to their own funds, the agency points out.

In October, the same representative of the Central Bank emphasized that there would be no drastic steps to disable Visa and MasterCard in Russia, and their expired cards continued to function.

On the eve of December 10, the NSPK announced that expired Mir payment cards can be used permanently, and citizens will be able to make their own decisions about the need to replace them. At the same time, the press release noted that starting in 2030, such cards will no longer be served in deferred and offline modes, including those used when purchasing goods on board an airplane.
