OREANDA-NEWS  Russian biathletes have filed a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the refusal of admission to international tournaments. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU).

"The statement of claim was filed with the CAS today," the SBR said. At the moment, Russian and Belarusian athletes are suspended from tournaments by decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). Because of this, they will not be able to compete at the upcoming Olympic Games in 2026, even in a neutral status.

Earlier, Russian biathletes appealed to the IBU athletes' commission for non-admission to the competition. Viktor Maigurov, President of the Russian Security Council, noted that it is important for the organization to understand how foreign colleagues feel about the issue of admission of Russians.

On December 2, the CAS ruled unlawful the decision of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) to deny Russians admission to the competition. After that, the FIS was obliged to admit the Russians, and later the organization granted neutral status to three Russian athletes, freestyle skier Anastasia Tatalina, as well as cross—country skiers Daria Nepryaeva and Savely Korosteleva. Thus, they will have a chance to qualify for the 2026 Olympics.
