OREANDA-NEWS  The Executive Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has approved a delegation of neutral athletes allowed to participate in the World Championships in September.

"It consists of 12 athletes, seven service personnel and one technical judge — all of them have Belarusian passports," a statement on the IWF website reads.

Thus, Russian weightlifters will not take part in the upcoming World Cup.

"With regard to Olympic qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the IWF voted positively for the guidelines for the commission responsible for reviewing athletes' requests for exemption from participation in the qualification process. According to the IWF/IOC qualification system for weightlifting competitions at the Olympic Games, mandatory attendance at some competitions is part of the procedure. Also, in accordance with these rules, athletes can apply for release under exceptional circumstances," the text of the appeal emphasizes.

The World Weightlifting Championships will be held in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) from September 4 to 17.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations allow Russians and Belarusians to compete, provided that they do not support their own and are not related to military sports societies.
