OREANDA-NEWS  The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has canceled the payment of import customs duties for the supply of chicken eggs. This is reported by the press service of the organization.

A new supplier of eggs to the Russian market can now be found not only among producers in Turkey, but also in Iran. They can start buying products in this country without paying customs duties as early as 2024. The benefit will be provided from January 1 to June 30, 2024 in the amount of up to 1.2 billion units.

"Deliveries from far abroad have not been carried out since 2020, which was due to a high level of self-sufficiency. However, now, against the background of an increase in consumer demand and a decrease in production due to the epizootic situation, we are seeing a noticeable rise in the price of eggs," explained the Minister of Trade of the EEC Andrey Slepnev.

According to the representative of the organization, the temporary benefit is of a short-term nature and will help to contain the rise in prices for socially important goods and avoid their possible shortage.

Over the past few weeks, the prices of eggs in Russian stores have exceeded 100 rubles per dozen. Over the year, the popular protein source for Russians has become more expensive by an average of 40 percent.

According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, egg prices will decrease after the New Year. He noted that the start of supplies from Azerbaijan and Turkey will affect the adjustment of their cost.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has already opened cases against four egg producers who could synchronously raise prices. The reason for the start of the proceedings were signs of cartel collusion, which were seen in the department.
