OREANDA-NEWS  After a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka, a tsunami occurred even on freshwater Lake Kurilsky, writes RBC.

According to the staff of the conservation service, it all started on the morning of July 30. "I was standing near our work vehicles and saw how they began to shake, then it became obvious that the ground was shaking under my feet, all the buildings on the cordon began to stagger and creak," said state inspector of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve Spas Tarasov. According to him, suddenly the water began to move away from the shore, and soon returned in a big wave.

No injuries were reported during the earthquake, and there was no damage to buildings. The Russian regions were hit by a tsunami. For example, a four-meter wave was spotted in the Yelizovsky district of Kamchatka. Later, a tsunami threat was announced on all the Kuril Islands. And in Severo-Kurilsk there were four tsunami waves. The operational services of the region clarified that the height of the waves exceeded three meters, and the most powerful in appearance reached five meters.

A powerful earthquake in Kamchatka occurred on July 30. Initially, the magnitude was 7.5, but later it reached 8.7. This turned out to be the strongest earthquake since 1952.
