OREANDA-NEWS New lithium reserves have been discovered in Russia for the first time in more than 20 years, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said.
"The indicators for some rare metals have been increased. And for the first time in more than 20 years, new lithium reserves have been discovered, an integral component of the high—tech industry," he said at an expanded board meeting of the Federal Agency for Subsoil Use.
According to Patrushev, this is very important from the point of view of ensuring Russia's resource independence, so the momentum must be maintained. This is facilitated by stimulating the inflow of private investment in exploration, the Deputy Prime Minister added.
Lithium is the main raw material for batteries, it is also used in ferrous and non—ferrous metallurgy, nuclear energy, ceramics, glass production and other fields.
