OREANDA-NEWS The Federal Forestry Agency has issued an order to include the ash-leaved (American) maple in the list of "invasive or alien plants" dangerous to the forest. The document is published on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
Measures should now be taken in 43 regions of Russia to identify, prevent, and destroy such plants. For violation, a fine is threatened for individuals from 20 to 50 thousand rubles, for officials — from 50 to 100 thousand rubles, for legal entities — from 400 to 700 thousand rubles.
The ash-leaved (American) maple harms the environment by growing rapidly and threatening rare and endangered plants, said Evgeny Schwartz, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Honored Ecologist of Russia. Ash—leaved maple is especially harmful to deciduous forests of oak and aspen - its roots simply displace plants from the soil. This, in turn, may negatively affect the bird population, as their habitual habitat will disappear.
