OREANDA-NEWS Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moscow Rahman Mustafayev has been summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
"In connection with the unfriendly actions of Baku and the illegal detention of Russian journalists, to whom the Azerbaijani authorities have had no complaints all these years, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry," Zakharova told reporters on Monday.
Earlier, Zakharova said that Moscow was concerned about the situation around Russian journalists in Azerbaijan.
"We are concerned that for more than two hours Russian diplomats in Baku have not been able to contact journalists who are Russian citizens," a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman told reporters.
According to her, "employees of the consular department of the Russian Embassy are not allowed to see Russian journalists."
"Information about the reasons for such actions is not given. We are worried about our journalists. The Russian Embassy informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service of Azerbaijan - there is no response," Zakharova said.
On June 28, the TFR reported that several people had been detained in Yekaterinburg, suspected of participating in contract killings and attempted murders in 2001, 2010, and 2011 as part of an ethnic criminal group. Later, the court authorized the arrest of three detainees and extended the detention period for 72 hours for three more.
After that, the charge d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in Baku was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry. A protest was expressed to the Russian diplomat in connection with the raids of representatives of the Russian security forces "in the apartments where our compatriots live." It has been brought to the attention of the Russian side that an investigation into the incident is expected in Baku.
