OREANDA-NEWS  The first and last president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, really wanted the good of his country, but did not know how to achieve this good. Russian senator Alexei Pushkov called the main mistake of the politician.

"I still believe that he sincerely wanted to do good. But he didn't know how to do it. And when you don't know how to cross a mountain stream, you probably shouldn't enter it. But we need to think it over first," he said.

According to him, Gorbachev was also "piously" convinced of the inviolability and solidity of the Communist Party's power. In this regard, he considered it possible to carry out any reforms, including those that eventually weakened her power.

Earlier, the results of the Lenta survey.<url> has shown that the overwhelming majority of Russians have a negative attitude towards the figure of Mikhail Gorbachev and believe that he is responsible for the collapse of the USSR and the tragic events that followed. Only 12 percent of the survey participants consider Gorbachev to be a positive hero of national history.
