OREANDA-NEWS  Bulgaria should demand that Russia pay a penalty under the gas contract, economist Yevgeny Kynev believes.

Moscow unilaterally decided to change the contract for the supply of gas, in connection with which Sofia should demand payment of a penalty, the expert noted.

"Bulgaria cannot assess whether it bought gas at inflated prices or not – you need to know what the price in rubles was at that time, and what transactions with the Russian currency would cost, since there were two intermediaries – from the stock exchange and the bank," 24 Hours quoted Kynev as saying.

In Bulgaria, on the first day of the new year, natural gas has risen in price from €73 to €92.
