OREANDA-NEWS The number of smokers in the Russian Federation last year decreased by 5.8%, or 1.4 million people. This is evidenced by the research of the analytical service of the audit and consulting network Finexpertiza based on Rosstat data. 

"The number of smoking Russians in 2022 decreased by 5.8%, or 1.4 million people. 19.2% of the population aged 15 years and older, or about 23 million people, continue to indulge in addiction," the study says.

The most smoking regions, according to the presented analysis, are the Altai Republic (tobacco products are consumed by 34.2% of the adult population), the Sakhalin Region (33.5%), the Magadan Region (31.9%), the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (30.4%), the Komi Republic (29.6%), the Jewish Autonomous Region (28%), Yakutia (27.1%), Kamchatka Krai (27%), Kemerovo Region (26.7%), Amur Region (26.6%).

Residents of Chechnya (3.3%), Ingushetia (4%), Dagestan (6%), Mordovia (10.2%), North Ossetia (10.9%), Karachay-Cherkessia (12.5%), Ryazan Region (12.6%), Kabardino-Balkaria (13.4%) are the least affected by the addiction. Yaroslavl Region (14.3%) and Krasnodar Krai (14.8%). In general, according to the study, every third man and only every twelfth woman smokes in Russia - thus, Russians consume tobacco products four times more often than Russians.
