OREANDA-NEWS Israel has received a response from the mediators of the Palestinian Hamas movement to the proposal for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages, Dmitry Gendelman, adviser to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told RIA Novosti.

An Egyptian source told RIA Novosti on Monday that Hamas had agreed to a 60-day truce proposal from Egypt and Qatar on August 17, which should lead to a complete end to the conflict with Israel, as well as the release of half of the Israeli hostages in exchange for some Palestinian prisoners.

"Israel has received a response from Hamas from the mediators," Gendelman told the agency.
