OREANDA-NEWS The Japanese government sees no opportunity to impose protective duties against countries that buy Russian oil, as US President Donald Trump insists. This was stated to journalists by the country's Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato, Bloomberg reports. He recalled the requirements for members of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which do not allow Tokyo to impose duties above the established limits and require all member countries to be treated equally as long as they fulfill their obligations. In this regard, it would be very difficult to increase duties against a country to even 50 percent, which is the minimum that the head of the White House wants to see, Kato said. He added that Tokyo is exploring ways to put pressure on Russia to end the fighting in Ukraine and is cooperating with other G7 countries on this issue.
