OREANDA-NEWS President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko was surprised by the unexpectedly high turnout in the elections to the Parliament of the republic. His statement is transmitted by the BelTA news agency.

One of the reasons for this result, the president called the clumsy gestures of the "fugitive" oppositionists. "The most important thing is that people understand the current moment, perceive it correctly, characterize it," Lukashenko noted.

The Head of State said that during the campaign, for the first time, the entire vertical of representative authorities was simultaneously elected, starting from village councils to deputies of parliament. "I was previously informed about the results. It went very well," the Belarusian leader concluded.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Lukashenko on the victory of the Belarusian patriotic forces in the elections. He stressed that the results show support for the course towards harmonious socio-economic development and maintaining stability in the republic.
