OREANDA-NEWS  French President Emmanuel Akron plans to pass a law that will allow the extermination of wild wolves in the country so that farmers can protect their herds. This is reported by Politico magazine.

"We will not allow wolves to enter areas where they pose a threat to our agriculture. And this means that we must, as we modestly say, get rid of a large number of them," the head of state said.

Macron also responded to possible criticism of the initiative and said that people "who come up with rules and do not live with their animals in places where bears or wolves are found should go there for two nights."

On December 3, 2024, the European Union lowered the protected status of wolves after the attack on the ponies of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and allowed hunting them from March 2025. The decision was made due to their "growing numbers and negative impact on animal husbandry."
