Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, denied rumors about the confiscation of deposits, as quoted by the Vedomosti newspaper.
The politician said that foreign publications periodically launch information attacks, raising the topics of withdrawal of deposits from banks and the impending demise of the Russian banking system.
"Our banking system is absolutely stable, even despite the huge number of sanctions. There are no threats to citizens' money, the state fulfills all its obligations. And the fact that foreign media are being dispersed for propaganda purposes is clear what they are doing. There is an order for this," Medvedev explained.
The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council also noted that cases of private business assets being withdrawn to state revenue should concern only those persons who either acquired such assets unlawfully or are engaged in activities that threaten the security of the country. All other cases of seizure can only occur on a reimbursable basis in the public interest.
At the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Russian President Vladimir Putin categorically rejected the possibility of freezing Russian bank deposits. Putin stressed that the Russian economy is in an absolutely stable situation. "The main thing is for the whole business, especially for small businesses, to have a sense of stability," he added.
