OREANDA-NEWS The price of a kilowatt-hour in Russia is one of the lowest in the world, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the strategic session "Development of the Electric Power Industry".
"Our task is to preserve this important advantage for citizens and businesses," the head of government stressed.
According to him, over the past five years, the demand for electricity has been growing at a faster pace, especially in the eastern and southern regions of the country, while the structure of energy consumption is changing.
"On the one hand, new technologies are being actively introduced that reduce energy consumption per unit of output as a whole; on the other, energy—intensive sectors are expanding," Mishustin said.
The prime minister explained that we are talking about electric transport, data centers, and the use of AI. In addition, the electrification of industrial and household appliances continues.
In January, the government approved the General Scheme for the placement of electric power facilities until 2042, which provides for the commissioning of 88,477 gigawatts of generating capacity. Construction costs were estimated at 42.53 trillion rubles including VAT.
