OREANDA-NEWS  The Central District Court of Novosibirsk on Friday chose a preventive measure in the form of detention of the 1992 Olympic champion in sports walking, former CEO of the Novosibirsk football club Andrei Perlov in a fraud case, an Interfax correspondent reported.

"The court decided: to choose a preventive measure for Andrei Borisovich Orlov (..) in the form of detention until May 23, 2024," Judge Ruslan Frolov announced the decision.

Earlier it was reported that Perlov is accused under Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud).

Before the meeting, he told reporters that he would not admit guilt in the fraud he was accused of.

The Olympic champion is charged with embezzlement of funds from the Novosibirsk football club, which Perlov headed as CEO in 2020-2022.

It was also reported that the accountant of the club was detained.

Perlov was also the executive director of the regional football Federation from 2016 to 2023.
